What's up with the trend of lowered cars? I don't understand it at all. Last week I saw a lowered car that barely can lepas the speedbump. Isn't lowering just an inconvenience? And wont it damage the exhaust? Why do people lower their cars actually?

There are 3 types of going lowered. 1) The ones that just it does for looks, but reasonable. Maybe they think the original ride height is abit too tall. So they throw on some lowering springs. 2) The ones that want better handling. They throw some proper adjustable suspension. 3) The really dumb ones. As seen on the photo. Slammed to the ground, scraping frames. They are not comfortable, and they definitely won't handle well. Way to ruin all the hard work engineers put into the car to make them ride and handle well.

Being lowered too low will damage your undercarriage..your lower body will get scrapped..not too mention your bushes will not last long..too stiff..and worse of all the rear fender wheel arch is rolled..sometimes badly..take this as a tell tale sign..

Firstly, its not a trend.. lowered cars whatever their reasons have been around for the longest time.

Lowering is done to improve cornering stability and when done moderately 25-50mm (and properly with lowered sports springs & matching absorbers), the issues such as scrapping your undercarriage or having uneven tyre wear will be minimal, but never eliminated. To go beyond 50mm will make it worse so its the choice of the owner. Of course, majority of people who lowers their car also do it for aesthetic reasons, ie. to reduce the fender gap to be less than your tyre side wall height which is necessary after the owner invested in a larger set of sport rims and tyres....

This started because 1) speed limits are slow enough that some people decide that if I'm going this slow so everyone can see, might as well look good (or their version of looking good) 2) You don't see this trend in Germany where speed are usually set higher. Or Dubai, where speeds are also normally higher. Of course these countries have stanced cars, but they're only for show and not road use. Also usually bagged, not static lowered. "Don't complain if you've always advocated for slower speeds. These cars are not a danger since we're slow" - (the people who usually stance their cars would say) I've always liked looking at lowered cars being parked, but definitely not a fan of seeing them scrape the floor. Nor would I actually lower mine beyond reasonable limit.
