I changed my tires few days ago and I noticed that there are red or yellow colour dots on the new tyres. I am curious what those coloured dots on the sides of new tires are for? Then I asked my friends and finally know what those coloured dots are for? Now I want to write something and share to you guys here!๐
Why new tires have red/yellow dots?
First of all, the dots are marked for ensuring the tyres are being mounted correctly. The incorrectly mounted tyres will affect the balancing of the wheel. When the dots can be aligned with certain points on the tyres, the minimum will be used for balancing weights and it decreases the cost to balance.
Yellow dots:
Will be placed on the lightest point of the wheel. When we're installing the tyres, just need to line up the yellow dots to the location of the valve stem, which is the heaviest point of the wheel. By aligning these two points on the wheel, the weight distribution across the entire wheel will be more balanced, and tyres will last longer. Red dots are the same, but it is placed on the heaviest point of the wheel.
Just a small tip to help you know your car better!๐๐
