Introduction
This is the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, a mid-engined V8 PHEV supercar that has the power to rival its V12 brethren.
SF stands for Scuderia Ferrari while 90 stands for 90th anniversary of the Prancing Horse racing team. Additionally, Stradale means for road use.
Engine and performance
The SF90 Stradale utilises a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 mated to three electric motors. It then provide a combined output rated at 986bhp and 800Nm of torque.
This is then translated to a 0-100km/h time of 2.5 seconds, which rivals that of a Bugatti Veyron. Eventually, it will break the 200km/h barrier in 6.7 seconds before eventually maxed out at 340km/h.
Chassis
The SF90 Stradale utilises a hybrid of aluminium and carbon fiber for its platform. This had contributed to a lower kerb weight of 1570kg (with 270kg of electric module included). For your information, a Porsche 918 Spyder is about 150kg heavier while the LaFerrari is about 10kg heavier than the Stradale.
The SF90 Stradale uses a new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission which is 10kg lighter and more compact than the existing 7-speed transmission.
This is partly due to the absence of a revser gear where reversing now relies on electric motors. Additionally, it has a 30% faster shifting times rated at 200 milliseconds.
Design
It was claimed that the SF90 Stradale is able to generate 390kg of downforce at 250km/h.
The key lies in the spoiler. The rear wing is an application of the drag-reduction system where the fixed element of the wing and shut-off Gurney of the wing were integrated into the body via an electric actuator.
Additionally, vortex generators had been used in front to help maximise downforce too.
Body wise, it uses a cab-forward design to help it utilised the aerodynamic components and the cooling components for the hybrid system better. This wasn't possible without the collaboration between Ferrari Styling Center and its engineers.
