Basic information
2014 Perodua Myvi 1.3 SE (2nd gen)
The reason why I bought this car
I need a reliable car to replace my aging 15 years old Kancil (to commute between my hometown and rental house nearby university).
Car selection process
Reasons why I chose this car:
I am looking for an affordable hatchback and at that time, Axia and Iriz weren't launched yet. I am not a big fan of Proton Saga (FLX) design; both exterior and interior. Meanwhile, I've tried my sister's Viva and found out that it is not really suitable for a long trip.
After discussing with my parents, we decided that Myvi is the best choice available. Moreover, this particular unit is the SE, which is Myvi 1.3 fitted with 1.5 stylings (front and rear bumper). It has a more upmarket appearance offered at a lower price point.
User Experience
The first 3 years of ownership were spotless. The car has traveled to almost every state in Peninsular Malaysia (for study and family matters) without any issue. The only things that need to be replaced are the battery and tyres. Other than, other normal wear and tear parts were replaced at the service center such as spark plug, cabin filter, oil filter, and other small parts to ensure the car runs at its optimal performance.
During the 4th until 6th year, I do not travel much except for regular visits to my hometown from the place where I study. Then, the car was used mainly for short trips.
Pros & Cons
Pros
1.Surprisingly reliable (no major issue after 7 years).
2.Relatively fuel-efficient (if you are soft on the gas pedal).
3.Rear cabin is quite spacious for a compact car.
4.The rear door can open almost 90 degrees which greatly assists ingress and egress.
5.Optitron meter cluster (which is later ditched for the production of Myvi Icon).
Cons
1.The engine response can be a little bit sluggish between 100-120km/h.
2.Wide opening, but small boot capacity (smaller than Axia).
3.Only has ABS and EBD, no ESC.
4.No audio control switch.
5.The rear door does not have a bottle holder.

Summary:
The 2nd generation Myvi is a hassle-free car to own. It can take you from point A to B with no issue provided that all necessary services are executed. However, I need to highlight that the engine is tuned for city driving which slightly affects engine response. The car may lack power (as it only has 90hp) but it gets the job done either for a short or a long trip.
There was an incident whereby the fuel range goes haywire and contradicts the fuel level. For example, you have 8km of range but your fuel tank is half full. It turns out that the problem was caused by a dying battery. After the battery was replaced, the problem was solved. Other than that, I am impressed by the quality of bulbs for the headlight and foglight. All bulbs are still in good condition and none were replaced after 7 years of ownership.

I would say that the 2nd gen. Myvi is still better than the all-new Proton Iriz Active.
