To serve as a daily driven executive saloon for commuting to work and back in the Klang Valley.
Car selection process
Reasons why I chose this car:
Stunning aerodynamic looks, superior Peugeot ride and handling, a long-standing and legendary motorsports pedigree (the Peugeot brand), and very good value for money due to low secondhand value.
User Experience
I am a car enthusiast, someone who has been competing in motorsports all my life and I own several cars. I have always wanted to own a Peugeot, given that this brand has a long-standing and illustrious reputation in Motorsports, particularly Rallying.
Peugeot incidentally is actually the oldest car brand in existence, established in 1810 and manufacturing cars since 1882. Unfortunately due mostly to poor dealer back-up in Malaysia, this brand is plagued by low resale value and a not-so-flattering local perception. I bought my 407 two years ago for less than RM 20k. This car cost about RM 130k new back in 2010. Good for me, it was time to buy a Peugeot! I spent some time looking through adverts on Mudah and this car caught my attention. It was a white one too, my favourite color. Being a nine-year-old car then, with about 200,000kms on the clock, of course, it needed some attention and some wear and tear parts replaced.
I did the most important thing, replacing all the suspension parts and the car became brand new again. The engine is still in excellent condition and the car has been perfectly reliable so far. There are many Peugeot car specialists and like-minded enthusiasts out there so upkeeping the car is very easy, not costly and parts, readily available. I have kept this car absolutely stock standard and I am convinced that someday it will be a bit of a collectors car. In my opinion, the Peugeot 407 is a handsome car, with a streamlined design. I love it for its superior ride and handling, the Double Wishbone suspension simply glides over speed bumps and rough road undulations effortlessly. There is hardly any body-roll in corners, the steering is sharp and with the Michelin PS4 tyres I have fitted on my car, it feels like I’m cornering on rails. Ask any Peugeot owner and they will probably echo my sentiments on the ride and handling. Despite being 11 years old the 407 came with some very much up to date features.
It has HID projector headlamps, auto-sensing wipers and lamps, dual-zone climate control airconditioning, and Bluetooth / USB connectivity for the audio system. Seats are wrapped with good quality leather in my 407 and are still in excellent condition till today.
I think that buying a used Peugeot 407 is fantastic value for money.
