Owner Review: One of the best underrated hot hatch in Malaysia - My Suzuki Swift 1.4 GLX

Reasons why I bought this car

My wifie and I wanted to replace Perodua Kelisa as it started to give a lot of problems because of its age. So we searched for brand new cars and the main criteria should be a small hatchback. After test drove and visited some showrooms, we made up a final decision that Suzuki Swift is the best choice in terms of looks, fun driving and capable of handling. 

Car selection process

• I had a budget of: RM 70,000.00
• Models that I have considered include: Perodua Myvi, Honda Jazz and Mitsubishi Mirage

After my wife test drove the Myvi, it doesn't have the capability in handling (floating) and felt like throwing in 80km/h. She felt like not safe driving in a myvi although she said Kelisa had better ride and handling.
When we visited Honda Jazz and Mitsubishi Mirage, she straight told me that she doesn't want to waste time test driving both of them as Jazz has both ugly interior and exterior (boxy design) meanwhile Attrage exterior does not impress at all.

User experience

• I have already done 95.918km.

Since I bought this car back in 2013 and it is already 8 years but the look of this car still not outdated although there is a new generation model launched in other countries unluckily we can see on our road as Suzuki brand vanished here. So sad that we cannot see a proper and cheaper hot hatch in Malaysia. This car can be said to a problem-free car like Toyota but only spare parts a bit pricier. I won't feel like I am driving a smaller car because the ride and handling are the best in its class. You can just throw it in the corner and highspeed, it doesn't float at all. That surprised me and can say Myvi is the opposite of that manner. Besides, it has good built quality although most of the material is a hard plastic that is common for the B segment. I'm just happy that it does not give a weird sound when driving for the past 8 years although it is assembled locally. On the other hand, the fuel consumption is on the positive side as it can give 16.4km per liter. The final thought of this car that makes me WOW is the comfort of long-distance driving. The seats are very comfortable as it is thicker enough with good tigh and shoulder support.

Summary

Suzuki Swift is one of the best underrated hot hatch in Malaysia and people who got RM50K and less budget can get a used Suzuki Swift rather than Myvi because you will experience a totally different driving dynamic in a Swift.
