Owner Review: Everything is looking new even after 10 years - My 2010 Perodua Alza 1.5

Reasons why I bought this car

My family wants to buy a car to fetch more people (although it turns out not) and to carry more things. So we actually look for a MPV which is the best option to serve our purpose. Initially it's a family-owned car (it still is) and after I got my driving licence I am the one who spends the most time with it. 

Car selection process

• I had a budget of: RM 60-70k
• Models that I have considered include: Toyota Avanza 
• Reasons why I chose this car:

The car is looking good even until today. Design wise it's better than Avanza, at least every member in the family agrees. I think that's the only reason we choose Alza in the end without much hesitation. 

User experience

• I have already done 33897 km.

This car was being well taken care of, ended up with only around 34k genuine mileage after 10 years. Notably, everything from the inside to outside is looking new. No modifications were done to the car to keep it as 'stock' as possible. The driving experience is boring but the handling is considerably acceptable given the moderate size of the vehicle. Maintenance is minimal (minor service only) due to less usage. No single part is being replaced throughout the ownership.

Pros & Cons

Pros

First of all, third row passenger legroom is awfully small. Just treat it as an 'upsized' Myvi instead of MPV. For my case, the third row seat is folded to take advantage of the much enlarged storage space as compared to a Myvi. Legroom space for the first and second row are huge. As a tool to move from point A to B, this car did its job well because the acceleration is still fast during overtaking. Overall it's a comfortable and practical car.

Cons

For the entry level variant especially Perodua, one may expect the interior build quality is bad. Hard plastics are everywhere covering from the dashboard until the door panels. Besides, NVH is terrible when cruising at high speed. Noise coming from the engine is very obvious when revving. After all, you wouldn't expect a wonderful ownership experience by owning a sub-60k national car.

Summary

As conclusion, it's a practical car especially for family usage. If you are looking for a Myvi that has a larger space, this is it. I think my Alza can still survive for another 10 to 20 years easily
