Basic information
2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0
RM 42,000k
Reasons why I bought this car
Upgrading and transitioning as I was previously driving a 1.3 Myvi. Needed a bigger car, and one to suit my needs and style.
Car selection process
- I had a budget of: 50,000
- Models that I have considered include: Mazda 3, Corolla Altis, City, Kia Cerato, Kia Optima, Hyundai Tucson
I've always liked the design of Korean cars. Hyundai cars have been in my family for a while now. My first experience with them was with a Hyundai Getz back when I was in secondary school when my mom bought one. Not long after, my dad got the Hyundai Tuscon as well. Perhaps that was one of the reasons that helped me in deciding to buy a Hyundai car.
While it wasn't very impressive back then, the newer designs especially those released from 2011 onwards trully impressed me. I fell in love with the Hyundai Elantra in 2011, however at that time I was still in college and all I had was as Kancil. I later upgraded to an old Toyota Altis which I got from my brother. It wasn't until I started working and I bought a Myvi.
User experience
- I have already done 20,000 km.
After purchasing, first thing was the petrol consumption was a little higher that what I was used to. My overall experience with the car has been great so far. Although the cost of parts may be a little high, its still within what I can afford. So I have no regrets purchasing the car.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Luxury look (interior and out), feels premium, comfortable drive especially for long distance, very little to no problem since the purchase.
- Only 1 major service when it reached 100,000km and to replace my alternator. Very spacious.
Cons
Parts are a little higher than what I used to pay. Petrol consumption higher as its a heavy car. Needs Ron97 to really feel good.

Summary
To sum it up, the Hyundai Sonata, although 10 years old, does not feel like it is 10 years old. A well maintained Korean car(2011-after) feels on par even with the latest releases of Japanese and Malaysian cars as well, and maybe to even take on the German cars.
