My New Car: I would take this car over the Proton X50 anytime - My 2020 Perodua Aruz 1.5 AV

Reasons why I bought this car

I needed a larger car with bigger boot space to carry around loads to deliver to my customer, which I find it hard to do that with my previous car, the infamous Perodua Axia Standard G 2016 as the boot space is extremely small (due to the nature that it's a hatchback of course). At the same time, I'm looking into a budget/entry-level SUV that has higher ground clearance to suit my preference, which the Perodua Aruz so happen to fit my requirement in terms of its' practicality built and also budget-wise.

Car selection process

• I have a budget of: RM70,000-80,000
• Models that I have considered include: Honda BR-V, Toyota Rush, Proton X70, Proton X50

I had the dilemma to choose from the much more desirable options such as the Proton X70 and Proton X50 when compared to Perodua Aruz. I ended up choosing the Aruz as it is more practical to select the Aruz as it somewhat has a larger space for me to load my stuff (especially when u tumble down all seats) when compared to X70 and X50. Besides, I do not want to jump into the bandwagon to purchase the newly launched Proton X50 as I've heard from many friends that owned the CKD X70 face a lot of issue in terms of reliability, which I'm afraid that it might happen on the X50 as well. Being an existing Perodua customer, I've had very good experience with my previous ride as it was very reliable and had zero issues throughout my 4 years ownership, thus increasing my preference towards the Perodua Aruz compared to other brands. When compared to the Honda BRV, the Aruz obviously perform better in many ways as it has superior safety features, better NVH, etc (The only downside on the Aruz is that the engine is less powerful and it is slightly more compact than BRV). When compared to the Toyota Rush, I personally feel that it's a no brainer option as I would rather not spend the extra RM20,000 or so just for the 'Toyota' brand itself (Toyota fans please don't flame me). All in all, I chose Aruz over the other option as it's a vehicle that suit my needs of getting a reliable car that is spacious enough to transport goods, while providing excellent safety feature to protect my loved ones.

User experience

• I have already done 13,000 km.

So far I'm pretty happy with my purchase. For an SUV around RM70k budget range, the Perodua Aruz is considered pretty good in terms of practicality, comfort and especially it's safety aspects. Loved the minimalist design of the Aruz as well when compared to the Toyota Rush as I find that there are too much thing going on with the Toyota Rush's design. I've just did my 1,000km mileage inspection and as expected, everything is performing as it is and hopefully it will continue to do so in the future.

Pros & Cons

Pros

• Reliable machine
• Practicality
• Good NVH (Up to 100km/h still not too bad)
• Spacious for cargo loading (When the seats are tumbled down)
• Wallet-friendly (For 7-seater SUV)
• Decent storage space & cup holders
• USB ports at the front & driver seat, with power outlets at the 3rd-row seat as well

Cons

• Underpowered (Main issue, not reallyyyy that bad but not good either)
• Terrible head unit (Laggy & lack of functions)
• Decent sound system
• No Auto-lock function (Presumably due to safety issue)
• No Auto fold side mirror

Summary

Overall the Perodua Aruz is a good bargain for people looking for a reliable and practical 7-seater SUV that has excellent safety features to complement its' shortcoming (Underpowered engine).
