How to drive downhill correctly with automatic transmission? As I frequently go up to Genting, I realise that I overly rely on the brakes when coming back down. I've heard of engine braking before, am I doing it correctly when I just put the gear into '2' or 'L' when coming down or should I just leave it in D?

never ride the brakes, downhill slopes such as Jalan Duta toll approach brake riding will gurantee at least a warped brake disk/pad combo meal pack. Always select a lower gear, depending on the transmission's grade logic, a tap on the brakes will initiate a downshift for engine braking. Failing which, gently brake then drop the transmission to a lower ratio (either with tiptronic operation or selecting S/L/OD off/Hold/2) depending on your gear shifter's selector.

normal person -put into 3rd gear/L/sport mode helps “dejavu” -dont brake or use handbrake

Being in the lower gear helps, but do light taps instead of pressing the brakes for a long period of time helps the brake cool. If u find yourself losing brakes, do take a break at the side of the road for it to cool, but don’t spray water directly on it as it might damage the brakes.

I think it’s not big of a deal if you are just driving a small sedan. Your brake system most likely would not overheat just going down a hill.
