How often should I change the gearbox oil? The usual maintenance only involves changing engine oil and filter, but my friend says that the transmission fluid also needs to be changed on a regular basis, is this true? If so, at how many kilometres should I change it? Will I damage my car if I don't change the gearbox oil?

Generally, manual transmission fluid require oil change every 20,000 KM or 2 years. Meanwhile automatic transmission fluid change happen every 60,000 KM or 3 years. Some of manufacturer will included a set of transmission filter and other sort of items included in the package and some of them will require oil change and drain plug only because their filter is long life type. However, some dual clutch transmission (DCT) require oil change every 90,000 KM and some of them will require sooner. Just refer to your service manual for maintenance section. Cheers

Generally, manual gearboxes are changed once every 60,000 km. Automatic transmissions are more expensive and are generally replaced at 40,000 to 50,000 km.
