Basic information about my car:
Proton Persona 2019 Facelift 1.6 Premium. Purchased in June 2020
Reasons why I bought this car(purpose):
used to own a Perodua Axia G and knowing that my wife was pregnant with our first baby boy, safety and boot space were our main concerns.
Car selection process
- I have a budget of: monthly installment between RM600 - RM800
- Models that I have considered include: Perodua Bezza, Proton Saga, Perodua Alza
Reasons why I chose this car:
- Value for money - although it does not have the best fuel efficiency as other options, the low monthly installment definitely helps me with more savings. Fuel consumption can be controlled but monthly installment is fixed. You do the math.
- An upgrade of segment - Perodua Bezza and Proton Saga may seem to be better at certain levels in terms of their fuel consumption but they are in the A segment.
- Safety - 6 airbags, HPF body structure
User Experience
- I have already done: close to 30,000 km
It is what I expected - a car for my little family. With a budget less than RM60k, I have a car with the best safety features (6 airbags, stability control, HPF body), touch screen infotainment system with voice command, semi-leather seat, leather wrap steering wheel etc. It is basically the best value for the highest spec of Proton Persona.
Pros and Cons
Pros of my car
- Spacious - although some may complain about the rear seat’s legroom, for me, it is quite spacious as the front seats are high enough to stretch your legs under the seats.
- Boot space - can fit a baby's stroller and luggage for a long journey. Although I didn’t have the chance to travel long distances during the pandemic, I had the chance for a staycation in KL with my baby before MCO 3.0. I was able to fit most of our needs into the boot.
- Safety
- Value of money
- Stability and smooth driving - some may complain of the CVT issue but it is still acceptable as long as it can easily accelerate during takeovers.
Cons
- Fuel consumption - OK for a long journey but not OK to be used in town. Long journey 15-17 km/L, in town 9-12 km/L
- After sales service - the light on the gear panel has started blinking, went to the service center and asked for replacement, but I need to wait nearly 3 months just to get the stock ready
- High RPM at cruising - the reason for poor fuel consumption, at 110km/h, rpm is at 2700.
- Alignment issue - the first thing I fixed during the first day after car collection and I still need to fix it quite frequently until today

Summary:
Proton Persona has been one of my wish lists since the first new model was introduced in 2016. Is it a dream come true? Yes! There is no such thing as a perfect car but Proton Persona sure has satisfied my needs. I can guarantee the safety of my family towards any destination.

I think the fuel consumption is a bit high for a long journey.
