Was planning to get a comfortable Crossover / SUV for daily drive this May and my friend (sales advisor) keep persuading me to buy Proton X50, so I placed a booking and waited for the official launch and test drive.
Car selection process
- I had a budget of 200k
- Models that I have considered include: ALOTTT from Sedan to Coupe to SUV
- Reasons why I chose this car: I saw potential in modifying the Proton X50, the car look sooooooooo good! And yes I got no regrets! For whoever haven't test driven the X50 yet, please visit Proton Cahaya Segambut / your nearest Proton showroom to be amazed!
User experience

Why did I decide to modify the car?
I told myself before I got the Proton X50, it's either be unique or don't mod it. So I chose the 'be unique' route. And also to prove Proton haters, the car can be nice if you have done up tastefully. MAKE PROTON GREAT AGAIN! And yeah, my ultimate target I wish Dato' Sri Syed Faisal Albar and Dr. Li Chun Rong can sign on my bonnet as an appreciation for my efforts.
After the modifications, what aspects of the car have improved?
Eye-catching, (Is that an improvement ? LOL)
More aggressive and sportier outlook,
Much agile handling as tyres are much more grippy and have stiffer sidewall,
Less understeer as offset and widths are more superior,
Sound system quality has gone from HELL to HEAVEN, well maybe we can meet up and have an experience in the car.
Noise insulation is way better after sound dampening and the door closes much solid but will need to add additional rubber to make it EVEN better.
Stops better after brake upgrades and also much more stable in corners after replacing to coilovers.
If you ask me, IT IS COMFORTABLE TO DAILY DRIVE THE PROTON X50.
Pros & Cons
PROS: Fuel efficiency, BIG POTENTIAL in modifying the appearance, Spacious for B segment car, no worries in heavy rain and flooding, affordable price with advanced tech.
CONS: BAD BAD BAD BAD FACTORY SOUND SYSTEM, BAD BAD BAD SOUND INSULATION, BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD tyre options that are given by Proton! SKINNY TYRESSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Summary
My overall feelings toward the Proton X50:
Like the car 30% before its launch and book,
Love the car 60% when more and more photoshopped pics on the web
Love the car 80% when launched and test-driven
Love the car 30000000% after I have done all the modifications.
Lastly, any interesting event?
The first day I got the Proton X50, a BMW X1 tailgated me on Kesas Highway just for his wife to take pictures/ video, after realising it I wind down the window, gave them (YEAH) gesture and the husband (Driver) giving a big thumb up.
The third day I got the car after done wrapping and all, a Range Rover Velar driving super slow just to wait me pass him and there goes the rear seat passenger recording video with her phone on my pass.
Everywhere I go, people are like WOW IS THAT REALLY A PROTON?
