Make and Model: 2019 Mazda CX5 2.2D
Time of Purchase: 17th July 2020
Price of vehicle: RM157,000
Need a replacement for my current car, Peugeot 408T which is already 8 years old, and prefer a car with less problem.
I had a budget of RM150,000
Model(s) that I have considered include: Honda CRV, Toyota Estima (Recond), Peugeot 3008, Proton X70
Reasons why I chose this car:
Good Fuel Consumption
Good driveability in terms of throttle response
Luxury feels of the interior
5 years of free service
I have already done 8,000 km
Since the purchase, my thoughts about the car are:
It is a very good car to drive, and good fuel consumption too. 1 full tank can go up to 800 to 900km with normal driving. The throttle response is very good and a lot of available torque especially on the low RPM makes it easy to overtake and accelerate. Engine a bit noisy especially during idling, understandable as it is a diesel engine, but Mazda's engineer had done a good job in try to reduce the noise. The brake can be improved as it feels less bite.
Pros
Fuel consumption
Good low-end torque
Plenty of power available
Luxury interior compare to rivals
Good NVH during cruising
Cons
Getting in-out, since the seating position quite high
Noticeable engine noise during idling
Brake feels less bite
Interior feels cramp compare to CRV
No adaptive cruise control
Total Score: 4
Performance: 5
Quality & Features: 4
Space: 3
Ride Comfort: 3
Fuel Economy: 5
Price & Cost: 5
Mazda CX5 2.2D has a very good fuel consumption, with 1 full tank can run for 800km to 900km, which is about 15~16 km/L. The downside is it requires Euro5 diesel to operate which is sometimes difficult to find especially in East Coast Malaysia. Other than that, the car is fun to drive, got plenty of torque and power for easy accelerate and overtaking. The ergonomics a bit of a letdown compared to its rival Honda CRV.
