Owner Review: JDM is the best! — My 2003 Honda Accord CL9 2.4

2003 Honda Accord CL9 2.4

Reasons why I bought this car:

CL7/9 was my dream car back in 2003 when it first launched in Japan.

I was so impressed by the sporty exterior & everlasting interior design. And it's still the best looking Accord family sedan even today. 

Car Selection Process

• I had a budget of RM 65k to 75k
• Models that I have considered include: Honda Accord EURO-R CL1, EURO-R CL7

I was initially looking for an engine horsepower of 220hp CL7 EURO R and found the selling price of EURO R was still hard like steel back in 2015. Until one day in September 2016, coincidentally I noticed one JDM CL9 ( engine horsepower 200hp ) was posted in mudah Malaysia and I decided to make a move to view it and frankly saying I had no intention to get it until I completely viewed and tested it.

It was really out of my expectation that JDM CL9 was so well-built even though it had an age of 13 back in 2016. Engine performance & 5 speed auto are also running good, the car body paint was still origin without single fading, all leather seats were still in very good condition especially for the rear passenger seat. 100% accident-free and 4 doors were solid built, the sound proof even better than my father's Honda Accord S86.

The JDM CL9 was so impressive until I couldn't resist saying no..The moment when I stepped out from the test drive, I immediately paid a small amount of deposit to the owner.   

User Experience

• I have already done 230,000 km.
• My average fuel consumption is 8-10L/100km.

After owning it for 5 years, I am still a happy man and glad to own this JDM Accord. It serves me very well and has very less hassle beside those normal wear & tear. The car handling until today is still one of the world class handling family sedan cars.

From the 3rd Generation Accord onward until the 8th Generation Accord, all Accords are matched with a double wishbone system which provides a better ride in terms of handling and cornering. This JDM Accord also capable of going down to Sepang track ( I will be

Pros of my car

1. Real JDM spec
2. Good handling & responsive
3. Front & back Windscreen & all 4 doors screen comes with UV protection.
4. Less hassle.
5. Rare in the Malaysia market.
6. Handsome looking.
7. Commonly sharing some wear and tear parts with local SDA Accord.

Cons

1. Fuel consumption is high compared with CL7 EURO R.
2. Heavy car body and acceleration is not up to my expectations.
3. Less legroom compare with Honda Civic - FD1/2.
4. Cramped if I sat with 3 people at the rear.

Summary:

This is a rare JDM Honda in Malaysia. Honda is no longer making such 4 wheel double wishbone suspension for family sedan which gives you superb handling + comfort ride. 

Lastly:

Anywhere, it will always get people's attention as this Accord is rare and car design is so lasting even today.
