Basic information
2010 Toyota Camry 2.0G
Reasons why I bought this car
Was looking for a family car but didn't want to go for MPVs and SUVs. Considered going for midrange sedans priced between RM 120k- RM150k.
Looking for a more spacious car with more power which can perform well even with many passengers.
Looking for an upgrade and more excitement compared to my 10-year-old Proton Wira 1.5GLi.
Car selection process
- I had a budget of RM 120-150k
- Models that I have considered include: Mazda 3, Honda Accord
- Reasons why I chose this car:
- Ride handling was far better than the Mazda 3 and Honda Accord. After test driving 3 of them, the 2010 Toyota Camry 2.0G stood out from the rest in terms of comfortability.
- It was spacious and it is a fun car to drive.
User experience
- I have already done 205,600 km.
Approaching almost 10 years of driving this car, so far it has no major problems and is a very reliable car. Only changed the rear suspensions due to squeaking last year during 2019 may be due to it withstanding the large pressure of load all these years. Other than that just regular basic maintenance needed. It is a facelift version so it looks sporty on the exterior while classy on the interior.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Roomy interior but doesn't feel bulky at all
- Controls are user friendly and not complex
- Features like cruise control, Bluetooth control & other controls can be accessed by the steering
- Good noise suppression and quiet driving.
- Good pickups, immediate response when stepping on the gas.
- Good Suspensions for comfort
Cons
- The car is quite long and not built for harsh cornering.
- Average fuel economy
- Safety features lacking such as only 2 airbags

Summary
Toyota has always been outstanding in terms of comfortability and built quality. This car definitely has more pros than cons. Other than more safety features, what more could you ask for. It has good ride and handling, good noise and vibration suppression (wind or engine noise does not intrude to the cabin), seating comfort with all-round electric controls and most importantly low maintenance cost. Been a fun car to drive even though the interior isn't as sporty, but the design is sleek on the exterior. Long-distance driving is much better after this upgrade from my previous car. It's still going strong and not showing any signs of slowing down so I'll continue to have it around.
Lastly, any interesting events?
Many of my friends who drive BMW or Merc said that I'm driving an "uncle's car". But when it comes to maintenance or repairs they are the ones to fork out loads of money. German cars are more fun to drive but "great power comes with great responsibility". I always win the reliability argument and always make fun of them and bring up "whose the uncle car now?" My car may look like an uncle but definitely isn't an uncle deep down inside. Still going strong while it gives me confidence and peace of mind owning it. Not the best Sedan in the market but decent!
