Basic information
2019 Toyota Yaris G spec
Reason why I bought this car
- Need a replacement car after my Peugeot 208 starts giving non-stop issues in its 6th year lifespan with major wiring issues costing more than RM20K to repair in SC.
- Surveyed a few cars with requirements of good safety features and a well known reliability after the nightmare of the Peugeot 208 parts wearing down one by one.
- Primarily need a car for daily commute between work and home, hence the reliability part is crucial.
Car selection process
-
I had a budget of: RM 100k
-
Models that I have considered include: Jazz, Rio, Ioniq
The reason why I choose this car
Safety features, reliability and the whole package.
User experience
- I have already done 10,000+km.
- My average fuel consumption is 10.5L/km.
Other than being a rather common car on the road, I am very happy with my choice.. until they announced the facelift design.
Which is why I decided to find and install the newer LED headlight, and finally found one seller on FB recommended by a member from Yaris group.

Pros

- Excellent service center (S&D Tama Sungai Pinang)
Cons
- Horribly designed armrest
- No telescopic steering wheel
- Rather thin paint job
- Performance is not as good compared to some cars of the same segment

Summary
What I have done so far with my car is a rather economical type of mods compared to most people.
Exteriors mods:
- Sprayed the rims to glossy black (somehow I prefer the stock Enkei rim design)
- Chrome delete door handles
- Removed the horrendous "misai" front grille add-n (double sided taped only)
- Sticker wrapped to cover red linings and changed some part to turquoise instead
- Changed the Toyota logo to matte black type (kept the original)
- Changed the springs to stiffer comfort sport type
- Changed the headlight to the latest full LED design (plug and play as well without modifying any wiring)
- Sticker wrapped the hood to cover the thin paint job chipping away
- Changed all regular bulbs to LED type (signal, reverse, interior etc)
- Changed to LED type side mirror signal
- Changed the spoiler to an AMG-inspired design
Interior mods:
- Added paddle shifters (turns out it's just a plug and play from previous gen Altis steering wheel back cover)
- Added OBD2 meter for battery voltage and oil temperature
- Installed a matte screen protector on the infotainment screen to rid off the annoying finger prints (from shopee)
- Added an armrests cushion to somewhat fix the poorly designed one (sourced from shopee)
- Sticker wrapped the door button panels (glossy black attracts too much dust)
- Sticker wrapped the silver trims to dark grey
Some interesting events
There's one quote that I read somewhere which I like that sounds something like this.
"If you don't look back at your car after you park it, you've bought the wrong car."
And yeah, I looked at my car all the time after I parked it :)
