Basic information
2020 Toyota Voxy CBU ATPM
Time of purchase: I bought this car earlier this year (2020)
Price of vehicle: Rp. 450 million (Equivalent to RM130,000)
Reason why I bought this car
The previous car in the family was a 2013 Mazda Biante, non Skyativ model. Therefore, we are looking to replace a vehicle that is comparable or at least the same type as the Biante, namely the Medium-size Luxury MPV with sliding doors. Because the car will be prioritized as a family car, ride comfort when used daily or for long-distance travel is a must. And it's always nice to buy a new car compared to a used car in my opinion.
Among the various options, there are several aspects that I consider, starting from the power that the engine produces, the features of the cars, and the reliability. Based on these aspects, the actual choice can be narrowed down to Nissan Serena and Toyota Voxy.
Car selection process
- I had a budget of RM: 100,000-150,000.
- Models I have considered include: Nissan Serena, Toyota Voxy, Toyota Avanza.
At the end of 2019, the options available in the Indonesian market were Nissan Serena, Honda Freed, Toyota Voxy, Hyundai H1, and Kia Grand Sedona. I was specifically looking for vehicle that are CBU import from either Japan or Korea because of price considerations and reliability.
The reason why I choose this car:
- Reliability
- Durability
- Abundant features (Stability Control, 7 Airbags Point, Optitron Speedometer, Double Moonroof, Keyless, Start / Stop Button)
- The cabin is very spacious for a family
- Comfortable
- Widespread official service centres and warranty offered up to 100,000km or 3 years
User experience
As the total driving distance is still not so far, the odometer of the vehicle has only been recorded at around 5,000 kilometres. However, it is enough for me to judge that the Toyota Voxy is the right vehicle for my needs. I am satisfied with its performance, especially for long trips. I have driven this Toyota Voxy from Jakarta to Bandung and use the cruise control feature, even though the road conditions on the way requires a lot of uphill and downhill, the engine can balance speed smoothly and still result in satisfactory fuel consumption.
Not only is the Voxy the fun to drive, if you need speed this car can go fast very easily, with a compact, compact body that is not too difficult to manoeuvre to overtake. Ride comfort is also not bad, If I want to be passengers, I just give the key to the wife and try to sit in the middle and enjoy the trip with a broad view because of the double moonroof like the Toyota Alphard.
For fuel consumption in the city, we get the display in the middle of the dashboard shown at 10km/L, while for highway drives it can be penetrated up to 16km/L. Very economical and adequate. Unfortunately, with such fuel consumption, this car visits gas stations quite often, because the capacity of the fuel tank is not too big for an MPV class car, which is only around 55 litres.
Overall, this Toyota Voxy vehicle is suitable for use by Indonesian families whose characters are many roads that are not good, with a spacious and comfortable cabin so that they can be busy with family and friends to feel the aura of authentic Japanese vehicles. Oh lastly, this vehicle requires very minimal maintenance, just normal wear and tear parts as you would expect from a Toyota vehicle.
Ratings
Total Score: 5
Performance: 5
Quality & Features: 5
Space: 5
Ride Comfort: 5
Fuel Economy: 4
Price & Cost: 5
The Toyota Voxy is indeed very value for money for me, I give it 5 scores except for fuel, economy because I feel that the tank is a little too small requiring frequent refuels.
Pros & Cons
Pros
Maintenance costs and spare parts are very affordable, and support from the official Service Centre repair shops in each city is also very supportive when a car component damage claim occurs both during the warranty period and after the warranty period has expired.
Cons
The lack of this Toyota Voxy is in the front speakers. So that all the audio issued by the head unit is concentrated for the middle and rear row passengers. But this is not a major thing for me, because this car is to pamper the family. After all, the default head unit is equipped with a Smartcast, even though there's no Android Auto. Then when it rains, the cabin NVH is also lacking, maybe because there is a double moonroof at the top, but that doesn't matter when we can see the raindrops thru the moonroof.
Summary
while using this Toyota Voxy, I am quite satisfied with the excellent engine performance. The soft suspension is typical of Toyota, whether you are behind the wheel or as a passenger, it is equally exciting. And most importantly the family is happy with this car.
