Owner Review: Fashion statement or actual achievement by BMW? My BMW 218i Gran Coupé M Sport (2021)

Basic information about my car:

BMW 218i Gran Coupé M Sport (2021) RM 211,367.00 (without SST)

Reasons why I bought this car:

Daily use (Work & Traveling)
Change from previous 12-years old W204

Car Selection Process

• I had a budget of RM 200,000
• Models that I have considered include: A200 sedan W177, Mazda CX30, Lexus UX

Sport look because it's Gran Coupe
Includes most of the safety features
Within my budget & cheaper than rival
5 years warranty & free service (save costs & hassle free)

*All new center console with new gear knob. BMW new design for all current & upcoming models

M Sport Package so no need to upgrade any bodykit
Easy access & Comfort access
Personal Assistant (Hello BMW)
Personalized Driver with car key & key card too

User Experience

• I have already done 2682 km.
• My average fuel consumption is 8L/100km.

It's powerful & easy to handle. The driving is smooth & handling is great, combining the steering grip is comfortable.

Very responsive but still a bit turbo lag unless I switch to Sport Mode.

Apart from its power, I feel safer with all the safety features. For instances, BSM, AEB, Lane Change Warning, RCTA, speed limit etc

Luxury feel with all the high-tech features such as easy access, personal assistant, monitor car status & control my car via mobile apps, ambient light, etc 

Furthermore, it's very quiet on the inside when I'm driving.

*Very atas ambient light, unlike those traditional in W177 & after market installation.

Fuel-savvy (depending on your driving style, but I'm comparing with my previous 3 cars 1.8 & 1.6)

*Analogue meter with center digital display. However, it looks like digital in actual.

Good handling with power at the same time comfortable interior

Nice sporty look with M Sports Kit

Spacious than I expected as I dun have kids

Cons

Meter cluster still analogue
The sound of closing the door sounds fragile due to it's frameless window reason
Low profile tyres & M suspension make me uncomfortable when on uneven road or potholes
No auto start

*Non-active grill but trendy

Summary:

Initially I chose the MB W177 Sedan because I like the brand. However, there's no stock available due to worldwide lockdown.

*BMW Full LED lights

I gave a chance to my friend to take a look at a BMW. I requested to look at the 2 series since I know it's the smallest sedan.

Once I opened the rear door, the frameless windows caught my attention to discover the car further.

Everything I like about the car compared to the rival except slightly less power which I don't mind at all, seeing 2GC has all the safety features which W177 has much less, not even blind spot monitoring & wireless charging.

*Safety Assistance, can set manually or On/Off together

W177 CBU is much higher price & less 1 year warranty & no free service. One of the main reasons I choose 2GC is that BMW provides 5 yrs hassle-free free service & warranty which I can save a lot.

No need to upgrade to any bodykit saves me even more compared to its rival appearance. I have to admit that the W177 interior is more advanced & nicer than 2GC but that's it.

*Reverse Camera with indicator, sound & emergency brake. Includes RCTA
Reversing Assistance can memorize up to last 50m & reverse automatically to the exact spot.

Now W177 CKD has lowered the price to almost the same with 2GC but cut-specs a lot such as no more run flat tyres & no ambient light. 

There's another thing which impresses me other than auto-parking. This car has reverse assistant features.

It can remember up to the last 50m which you drove & reverse automatically to the exact position.

Really useful if you have driven into a narrow dead end where you can't do a 3-point turn to get out.
