Basic information about my car:
Honda City RS 1.5L e:Hev
Reasons why I bought this car:
First thing that I love the most about this car is that it comes with a hybrid engine, or we call it the Sports i-MMD engine, where it's a fuel-efficient and more affordable car compared to other hybrid cars. With this hybrid system, I’m able to save my money pocket for the petrol as 1 full tank (40 liter) can go for ~850 km in standard mode of driving or I can travel to KL from Kelantan or even can do round trip with only 1 full tank (no speeding) where only cost me ~RM70.
Secondly, what I like about this car is it also comes with Honda Sensing in the B-segment car. But recently, Honda has announced that now citizens can get this Honda Sensing in Honda City V variant which is the second top variant with cost RM90k only. Now you can pay less to get the sensing. With this Honda Sensing, for me it’s very useful especially for a long-distance journey.
Among all the senses I have in my car, the most that I use is Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), CMBS, and Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) which can assist me while driving. I can say that this car is the mini Tesla or Tesla little brother. Thirdly, let’s talk about performance.
If you compare the horsepower of this hybrid car with other Honda City variants or even other brands in the same segment, this City E:HEV is not the most powerful one because it’s only up to 109 PS where max speed only can go up to 185km/h compared to others which is higher. Although the horsepower is lower, torque is the most powerful in this car where torque can go up to 253 Nm when combined with an electric motor. Sounds crazy right? Yeah. No other B-segment car yet to beat this City E:HEV. With this higher torque in the car, I can feel the acceleration is fast enough for me. Last but not least, let’s talk about maintenance. As I know, Malaysians nowadays are worried about buying a hybrid car because of the maintenance costs.
As for now I have only used this hybrid car for about 7 months, so I won’t talk much on it. As for now, I can’t see that the maintenance is high for this hybrid car. As you can see inside this official Honda website share about maintenance costs (https://www.honda.com.my/aftersales/maintenance), you can see that in the long term, hybrid cars are cheaper than non-hybrid cars. So less worried about it, if your car is in good condition and follows the servicing schedule, you can save a lot more of your pocket money.
Car Selection Process
As I mentioned previously, the first is because of the fuel-efficient vehicle. Secondly, with high technology installed which is Honda Sensing and electric parking button and auto-brake hold. Thirdly, the price is affordable and acceptable for a hybrid car.
User Experience
It’s just awesome to experience driving a hybrid car until now. I pay more to buy a car but I pay less for petrol, so I would have extra money in shopping and in daily use.
Pros and Cons
Pros of my car
1. Fuel-efficient
2. High safety technology
3. Sporty looks
4. Moderate (size) of passenger space
Cons
1. Limited car accessories can be installed especially if it’s involved wiring as it will automatically void the warranty
2. Non-electric seat adjustment
3. Doesn’t have spare tire but replaced with repair kits
4. Soundproof not so good if speeding exceeds 100km/h
5. Low or no resale value in long-term
Total Score: 5
Performance: 4.5
Quality & Features: 5
Space: 4.5
Ride comfort: 5
Fuel Economy: 5
Price & cost: 4
Summary:
In short, Honda City RS Hybrid is a good choice and suitable for city users especially Lembah Klang users always facing traffic jams and for those who are always having long distance journeys and wish to save pocket money.
As you know, the price might be a bit higher where RM20K difference from the V variant City but believe me, first you might need to pay higher to get it but in long term it will save your pocket money a lot. Can you imagine, non-RS City variant refilling 2nd tank but you’re still half way to go before 1st tank finished, in a simple way 2 tank non-RS City variant equal to 1 tank RS City E:HEV. How nice is it? In the long term I can say your car is cheaper than the non-RS City variant.
