Basic information
Honda CR-V 1.5TC 2019
The reason why I bought this car
It's time for an upgrade from my aging 2009's Proton Persona 1.6M. Furthermore, it has been my target to upgrade to an SUV -mainly the CRV (Bigger car lah basically :).
Plus, foreseeing the future, as I aged and suffering from a slip-disc and back pain, having a higher positioned car is an easy and practical way of getting in and out of the vehicle.
Car selection process
- I had a budget of RM 155k
- Models that I have considered includeHonda Civic 1.5 TCP
Reasons why I chose this car:
-Reputation
-Reliability
-Quality
-Technology
-Space
-Slick design
-Reasonable price for maintenance
-Warranty
-Easy to get parts and maintenance
User Experience
- I have already done 13,700 km
- My average fuel consumption is 9.2 L/km
After 10 years of driving a manual and then shifting to an automatic car, it is truly a great relief.
It is a well-engineered vehicle, and many things are being put into consideration and thoughts during its development.
For a car, its size, powered by a 1.5 turbo engine, it is quite remarkable how technology has evolved. And personally, I find the Fuel consumption relatively reasonable.
My review is purely based on how my experience, it may vary from one owner to another, and we can't agree or disagree 100% on how we experience owning and driving the CRV. Every owner has their own stories to tell and share. And I hope we might share the same experience too.
Pros & Cons
Pros
-Spacious interior
-Modern and Slick design
-Equipped with the latest technology (even though it is the TC variant)
-High driving position
-Love the walk-away lock and the touch to unlock feature.
-Back passenger door opens almost 90degrees
-Electronic adjustable seats
-Responsive handling
Cons
-Body rolling as turning and cornering (I guess it's pretty normal for a high positioned cars)
-Infotainment bit lagging and outdated
-No memory seat function (it should come as standard these days)
-The fuel cap should be on the driver's side (i keep forgetting it is on the front passenger's side when I am at the gas station, maybe I am so used to the old car)
-NVH canceling are so so

Summary:
When Honda launches the all-new CRV back in 2016 in Detroit, Michigan, I straight away fell in love with it and knowing since that day, CRV is "one day to own" car. Fast forward two years, I manage to own one -Passion Red Pearl (my initial target color was Obsidian Blue, but Honda Malaysia no longer offered the color at the time of purchase).
This year also marked my second year owning the fifth generation CRV, and I have no such qualms about it. I made a great choice purchasing it, and I guess it will be a perfect car when I retired.
And until today, I haven't got the chance to drive my car on the highway to drive long-distance/hours (hence the mileage) and do not have the opportunity to experience its maximum potential cause few months after I bought my car, we went into lock-down on March 18, 2020. Once MCO is lifted and we can travel inter-state, I surely will hit the highway! :)
Lastly, one small thought though, which is not a problem basically. I was caught a bit surprised when Honda announced that they are launching the facelifted fifth-generation CRV, which has all the bells and whistles as standard features -the Honda sensing, lane watch, etc... few months after I bought my car. :) If I knew then, I would have waited a bit longer to purchase the car :)
As we all have to work from home during the MCO, I have no problem placing and transporting my huge 27" iMac and my office chair in the boot (for few times) with the back seat folded down. And there's more space to add more things too. Amazing and no wonder Honda is known to be a Master of Space Interior Design.
