Basic information about my car:
1996 BMW 528i (E39)
Reasons why I bought this car(purpose)
The E39 has always been my dream car. Back in 2005 my manager purchased at RM88K a 528i 98 model. We took it for a spin and at that moment I decided that I will own one someday.
Reasons why I chose this car
I surveyed few cars and decided this was the one which you need to be at the right place at the right time. This is a 96 SV with 1 owner. This car was purchased brand new from AB Malacca during the launch of the model which at that time was CBU imported in by AB. The mileage was at 480k+ with the original engine and only ran on Ron97 with service records from its last full overhaul.
User Experience
I have already done12k km.
This was purchased as my hobby/weekend ride. When I am stressed out all I gotta do is go for a spin and hit the pedal to the metal and the inline 6 sings to me. Car still has its torque for its age.
Pros and Cons
Pros of my car
- Car at this age is loan free.
- Better built than some brand new cars.
- Big CC for petrol heads.
- Entitled for classic road tax if your car meets the requirement.
- Easy to get spare parts.
Cons
- High roadtax if you are not entitled for a classic.
- Reliability due to its age.
- Some parts don't come cheap.
- Need a good foreman as your friend.

Summary:
My E39 is my dream come true. I have upgraded the looks to M5 bumpers and sports exhaust system with a brand new glasurit paint. I plan to cover many miles with it once the state borders are open and enjoy the smooth drive of the first 5 Series with aluminium body and 2.8 inline 6 engine.
Transformation:
- Performance exhaust system
- Android touch screen
- BBS RS740 rims
- M5 shape bumpers
- Xenon and LED bulbs
Interesting Events:
As cars with such age will surely come with reliability issues, I had 2 which were minor. First was the fuel pump and second was during a heavy downpour the car stalled as there was a pool of water around the ecu. But both times my car managed to start up after sometime and took me home before heading to the workshop for repairs.
