2020 BMW 320d M-Sport
Reason why I bought this car
To be honest, I am a Conti car fan. That's why, when there is a plan to buy a car, the only two brands that came into our mind was Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The previous car I drove was the BMW 520i. To be honest, I wasn't quite satisfied with the car. It has issues with its engine. So when the time comes when the warranty period was over, there was a need to replace a new car because I don't want to end-up to have to pay for my repairs.
Car selection process
- I had a budget of: RM300-400k
- Models that I have considered include: BMW 3-Series, BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Choosing between the options available for us, we decided to give another chance to BMW. Not because we have problem with Mercedes brand, it's just that there weren't any service centres near our area.
After test-driven the new 3-Series, I immediately know that this is the model we want. I then jumped inside a 5-Series with the same engine (the diesel model) and found that the 3-Series is much quicker to respond when accelerating. Also, with a smaller body, the 320d is easier to park in tide spaces.
- I have already done 3000 km.
Personally, I really like to drive the 320d. But no car is perfect. There are a few shortcomings of this car I have discovered during use.
First of all, the NVH of the car does not live up to my expectation. The noise mainly comes from the floor. As for wind noise, I haven't discovered any.
As for the suspension. It feels ok if you are driving below 60km/h. The car is a little bumpy when driving at a slow speed. Once you get up to speed, over 90km/h, you can feel a massive amount of grip.
Pros & Cons
- Diesel engine with its powerful low-end torque
- Full sets of safety features, same as the European model
- Bright headlights
- High engine noise & vibration during idle
- Sporty driver seat is too cramped for my like
- Tide rear legroom
Total Score: 4
Quality & Features: 5
Ride Comfort: 4
Fuel Economy: 5
Price & Cost: 4
Overall, the impression of the BMW Series 3 320d M Sport is good.
