1. Basic information about my car:
2020 All New Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid premium safety
2. Reasons why I bought this car
I was considering buying a new car to substitute my 2001 Nissan Super Neo that has served my family so well since the ownership was transferred to us 7 years ago. As time goes by the fuel consumption rate was shooting up like fireworks. I drive 42 km to work and drive around on weekends, fuel consuption was at 4800 baht (RM 640) month.
Knowing how important it is to have more than one vehicle in a family, selling the Nissan was out of the question.
I needed a family vehicle that must be fuel efficient, HR-V, CR-V had no hybrid models, and for C-HR I really did not like the vehicle. Camry hybrid was way over my budget, so finaly I settled for Corolla Cross Hybrid.
3. Car selection process
- I had a budget of: 1,100,000 baht(about RM164k)
- Models that I have considered include: HR-V, CR-V, C-HR
Reasons why I chose this car:
I bought this vehicle primarily for its fuel efficiency rating .I work and live in Bangkok, on a 42km drive to work on eco mode, I achieve 26 km/L and normal mode 21-23km/L. I have owned this vehicle for 3 months, took my family out for vaction to Prachuap-Khirikan and other provinces around Bangkok but the monthly consumption rate a month stands below 1800 baht (~RM 240.) Toyota Corolla Cross is a monster for saving fuel.
4. User experience
● I have already done 4000 km.
After doing 4000km, my overall experience have been pretty good. I can't complain or rethink for a second why i bought this car. Sometimes the vehicle feels sluggish on highway but if you change the mode to Power, you will really feel how engaging it is to drive this car.
When you accelerate over 100km/hr, the cabin becomes a bit noisy if I compare with my 21 years old Nissan SuperNeo. Some say its because of the Michelin Primacy4, so maybe a tire change could solve the problem.
Another thing worth mentioning is the air-condition vents for back seat passengers, it really keeps my daughter cool on her car seat during Bangkoks burning sun.
The Audio system is pretty much above standard, it has a setting were you can select which speaker(s) you want the sound to go, its very much handy for me especially when my daughter is behind sleeping.
This car drives so well on corners. the ride height is high but you do not feel as if you are driving a Fortuner, its really easy to drive.
Some say the backseat is a bit cramped, but i do not think so, it is spacious enough to ferry 3 adults.
5.Pros&Cons:
Pros:
-Quiet drive at speeds below 100km/hr
-Great handling around corners.
-Extremely fuel efficient.
-Spacious enough for a family.
Cons:
-No autohold or automatic parking brake for 2020 car.
-Sounds like a lawnmower at speeds over 100 km/h.
-Can feel slugish sometimes
-Some cheap materials here and there.
-No adaptive cruise control,LKAS,AHB for this version.
6. Ratings:
- Total Score:4
- Performance:5
- Quality & Features:4
- Space:5
- Ride Comfort:5
- Fuel Economy:5
- Price & Cost:4
Jokes aside, if you have been looking for a hybrid for years, waiting for the right car to come along, buying the Toyota Corolla Cross will give you one of the most reliable nameplates (Corolla) and a car by a manufacturer who is very experienced in building hybrid powertrains.
