Basic information
2002 Toyota Revo GLX (MT)
The reason why I bought this car
This was purchased by my father back in 2002. He was looking for a family car that will fit all 6 members of the family as well as our extended families. Back then, the Toyota Revo was the best option for something that can fit 11 full-sized adults at a budget of below Php 1,000,000. The space in this car was just massive. It can fit three adults in the front, four in the middle, and four in the back. It's basically a practical everyday car.
Car selection process
- I had a budget of Php 1,000,000 (Actual SRP was Php 900,000)
- Models that I have considered include Mitsubishi Adventure
Reasons why I chose this car:
- Value for money: It can fit 11 full-sized adults. A car that can cater to our family and extended families.
- Reliability: It took us 17 years before we had to sell our first family car. It was even my fault that we had to sell it (hehe peace). My dad gave it to me for my everyday use but since I was a fresh graduate back then, I didn't have the pocket and the knowledge on how to properly maintain a car. After 3 years of careless ownership, we decided to sell our Revo, as it was more practical for us to use the proceeds for a new car instead.
- High Resale Value: Believe it or not, we were still able to sell our 17-year-old Toyota Revo for Php 100,000, that's roughly 10-5% of its original SRP. To date, the new buyer was able to repair it and use it for his personal use. I'm happy that it can still deliver despite old age.
User Experience
- I have already done 135,000 km
- My average fuel consumption is 4km/L
I never felt shortchanged with Revo's power. It's easy to climb mountains with it and overtake a slow-moving vehicle cruising below 100 km/h. It even had a stronger pull than my uncle's 2016 Toyota Avanza (AT) which I drove from time to time.
In fact, it never let me down when I needed its pulling power. There was a time that it was raining so hard in the metro and I had to fetch my sister from work. We had no choice but to pass a flooded street and the water was quickly rising. The water level was already at my headlights, nearing the top of my hood, but thanks to its power we were able to cross safely. What's more, is that the power is not that compromised despite being fully loaded.
My only issue with our 17-year-old Revo (gasoline) was its fuel efficiency. I was averaging 4 km/liter with it, which became an important financial criteria for us to sell it.

Summary:
Our 17-ear old Toyota Revo where the most memorable joyrides for the family was made.
It was difficult for us to sell the our beloved Revo given that most memories were made there. It literally saw my little brother from child birth up until college.
