Can Proton still be considered a fully-national car? For your reference, Proton is currently owned by DRB-HICOM (50.1%) and by Geely(49.9%). Most of the new car model launched by Proton is rebadged Geely Model. Would this still make Proton a national car brand or foreign car? Where is the originality?

First, you need to understand car company and car group. Rolls Royce is under BMW group. Does it makes Rolls Royce a German car? No, they are still British. Volvo is under Geely group, but they are not Chinese car. Land Rover and Jaguar is now under Tata Group, so are they Indian car? No.

This is an interesting topic. In my opinion Proton can only be a national car if it have its own design.,build its own chassis, engine and gearbox. Otherwise, it is just rethoric. Perodua is worse. At least, Proton has Iriz, Pesona, Preve, Saga. Another thing is that changing logo and some cosmetic changes won't make a foreign car, "national". Otherwise, Inokom (Hyundai) should also be considered as National car

Iriz malaysian what? Many more models can be considered as malaysian. Ramona Rahman, Denna Yusof n Sofia Jane just to name a few. Eurasian Malaysians but stil malaysian what.. Kemon2 we love hybrid dont deny.
