The key thing about being a car enthusiast is that we’re all united by the love of driving. It really doesn’t matter what car we drive, as long as we find joy in driving aroun what we have. Just be appreciative.
I’m sure many of you think the same way too - that’s why we’re here in this forum. This spirit needs to be further cultivated, so it’s with that belief that I brought my friend over to the famed route of Ulu Yam - Genting Skyway.
We were in humble cars, but had good company along the way. Biasalah, this is a well-known road among enthusiasts, so there was a fair share of expensive cars like Audis, GTRs and of course some supercars.
As is typical with these kind of drives, you best meet very early to make sure you get a relatively empty stretch of road ahead. We met up at the nearby Petronas at 6.30 am, and even by then it was already packed with cars. Just wait for the sun to rise up so you have a bit of light, then set off.
From the start point, the route takes you through 42 km of twisties through dense forests, the Selangor dam and even the little quaint Ulu Yam town. We’re newbies to this road but heard from veterans that we need to be careful up here due to many people driving fast up here.
After navigating the roads, we usually take a quick stop at Genting Skyway (the cable car place) for a quick breather.
From here, we’ll move up to the nearest mamak shop for a quick breakfast bite before running back up hill to Genting. Usually, we’ll stop on by at Chin Swee temple because…
There’s a fantastic view up there. You can see the whole KL from up here, but it was a little foggy last week which made it a bit hard to see.
This time also we had other drivers waiting up here. Nice cars like these are usual sights up here.
Of course, obligatory shots of our own cars. After this is settled, we take a break for a while, then head back downhill to head back home.
Overall, it’s a great way to 1) Learn about your car and 2) make memories with your friends. It’s also a cool, healthy way to spend your weekend as well.
Have you been up there before? Care to share your experience? If you want a part 2, let me know! I’m curious to see your sharing as well :)
