Basic information about my car:
2012, Proton Inspira 2.0P
Reasons why I bought this car(purpose):
This was my 2nd car, to replace my then current 18yo Proton Wira which served me well but over the years required monthly & sometimes very frequent maintenance to upkeep due to wear & tear parts & its overall age.
Car selection process
- I had a budget of: RM70,000
- Models that I have considered include: Kia Forte 2.0, Honda Accord, Proton Preve
Reasons why I chose this car:
It's a rebadged Mitsubishi Lancer, just with a Proton branding. So you're actually getting a Lancer at the price of a Proton Executive Sedan price range.
User Experience
I have done: 90,000 KM
My average fuel consumption is: 9.5 KM/L
No regrets on this purchase. It performed well and served as a great companion on the road. To date it has never broken down or given me any problems.
Fuel consumption is great on long distance drives.
Pros and Cons
Pros of my car
- As part of the first batch that was produced by Proton, it uses Mitsubishi parts as part of the rebadging by Proton by bringing this model into Malaysia in collaboration with Mitsubishi.
- Great fuel consumption for long distance drives.
- Very comfortable and spacious interior
Cons
- Spare part replacements can be pricey to use back original Mitsubishi parts.
- OEM parts are an option but I prefer the actual parts for peace of mind.
- Fuel consumption can be high during normal commutes within the city.
- Can be mistaken for Proton/Mitsubishi on the road by JPJ/Police if you have moded your car.

Summary:
I initially wanted a Kia Forte as there were not many Inspira's available at an affordable price back in 2013. As fate would have it, the Forte I was eying was just sold as I went to the dealership. As I was looking around, I saw this silver bullet hidden at the corner. Just like the scene when Paul Walker saw his Skyline for the first time, I was immediately drawn to the Inspira that was just sitting there... Even better was that the overall mileage was just below 3000km as the previous owner used it as a weekend car.. and it was less than a year old. Also the previous owner had upgraded the headunit to include a DVD/CD player with ipod & Bluetooth connectivity (2012 model) and also kept a record of all the service intervals done during the 1st year. So the car was basically brand new and really value for money in the condition it was in. Even still had the new car "smell" & the leather condition was brand new. This car has served me well since I bought it and I have no regrets. Great interior space, awesome features (sports mode paddle shift, auto cruise, climate controlled A/C, DVD/CD headunit) leather seats and leather door trim. It's basically an almost complete package any car owner can ask for.
Interesting Events:
Being part of active car groups, you tend to get influenced to upgrade / modify your ride. As i'm a firm believer of all things stock for a car (without compromising performance and handling) i eventually succumbed when one of the car members wanted to sell his modified Inspira and needed stock parts. As fate would have it, he got in touch with me and we basically swapped my cars Proton parts (front & rear bumpers) with his Lancer parts. And i have not been happier with the upgraded look since then. Upsized my rims from 16' - 18' a while after that, also via a good deal that i could not pass on. Best decision I made was to make my ride look "aggressive" and unique in its own way. I've only done cosmetic changes to the car, the engine and all other operational parts remain stock & unchanged.
